About Me...
I am currently a retired teacher from Horizon School Division in Saskatchewan, Canada. I have a Bachelor of Education degree and maintained a Professional A teaching certificate for 33 years. Over the course of my career I have had the opportunity to teach almost every grade level and almost every subject! I believe my years of teaching experience has afforded me a masters degree in education😉 I have a passion for learning which I inspired in my students, and now I hope to do that for other teachers!
Highlights in my career have been participating in the Clarica Scholars Program at Acadia University in Nova Scotia to learn about technology innovation in Canadian schools, receiving a Teacher Leadership Award sponsored by Franklin Covey Institute, touring A.B. Combs School in Raleigh, North Carolina where the "Leader in Me" process originated, and participating in an Educational Inquiry into the Finnish Education System at the University of Helsinki.
My professional skills of collaboration, critical & creative thinking, facilitation, and leadership mentoring have allowed me to experience the teaching and learning process at the elementary, high school, post secondary, and adult levels. I have facilitated workshops on building a leadership centered classroom, treaty education, and using technology in the classroom. I am currently a member of STF Professional Learning Facilitator Community working on Foundations of Teaching virtual and in-person workshops for teachers in the areas of Creating Safety and Belonging in Learning Environments, Responsive Instruction, Differentiation, Making Meaning across Curricula, and Supporting Student Agency in Learning.
Professional Development
Professional development is a cornerstone of the teaching profession. It is what keeps your teaching practice current, and it keeps you connected to other teachers! Professional development can breathe life back into your teaching and stretch your comfort zone boundaries!
Life after Teaching...
I have always loved creating my own resources, but as the demands of teaching grew, there was very little time to spend on creation of much needed resources. I began to rely on the expertise of other teachers to save time and find balance. As a result, Teachers Pay Teachers became a place to find resources that were often unavailable in the schools I taught in.
Fast forward to retirement from the classroom, I decided that I could put my 33 years of experience to use by getting back to creating resources and sharing them with teachers! As a Teacher-Author I can now create and share all the ideas I wish I had time to develop when I was teaching!
